Photographer Roermond: Atmosphere impressions book presentation "Deceptive Inability" at De Weerstand
I know Ingrid van den Homburgh through her work as a marriage officiant, I had the opportunity to work with her on several weddings as a wedding photographer. Recently, she asked me if I would photograph the book presentation of her husband Kees van den Homburgh.
Kees runs a consultancy firm called Man Kind Mens & Organisatie, specializing in the relationship between family and family businesses. Additionally, Cees has already written 5 books. The presentation of his latest book "Deceptive Inability" took place last Monday at De Weerstand in Roermond. De Weerstand is a trendy event location on the former Philips site in Roermond.
The afternoon started with coffee and cake for the invited guests at La Fabrique
Subsequently, in a separate room where Kees handed over the book to the mayor of the municipality of Roerdalen, Monique de Boer-Beerta, and to the mayor of Roermond, Yolanda Hoogtanders, a panel discussion took place.
The novel that Kees has written tells the story of Lisa, an ambitious farmer's wife
who in the early 70s decides to transform her farm into an organic farm with a dairy shop together with her husband Giel. An idea that was not received with applause by the powers that be in the dairy sector. On the contrary. Nevertheless, she persisted, against the current. With blood, sweat, and tears, they managed to build a healthy company and pass it on to their son Tom.
Announcement of business closure due to the nitrogen crisis
When Tom, fifty years later, informs his mother of the impending closure of the business due to the nitrogen crisis, this feels like a stab in the back to Lisa. Deceptive inability is once again the trigger for this fate. Seated at the kitchen table where their business was born and is now ritually buried, Lisa wonders if she made the right decision back then.
After the official part, Cees personally signed all the books and I also received one as a souvenir. One of the photos will be used for a press release.
